One of NOTAM’s main functions is to be a unifying center for the knowledge and use of technology for artistic purposes. Since its creation in 1993, NOTAM’s core activities has revolved around our users – composers, musicians, sound artists, stage artists, musicologists, music teachers and programmers of music technology tools – and NOTAM continually identifies new demands in the field of music and art technologies based on the the projects that our users come to us with.
Basically, anyone can become a NOTAM user. If you have a good idea for a project, and where NOTAM’s expertise can contribute to helping you realize the idea, contact us by phone or email and present the project. If we believe that the idea is good and we have human resources available, NOTAM will provide assistance both in terms of technical resources and production support at artist-friendly prices. The degree of involvement from our staff will depend on the individual user’s knowledge. For example, users who have completed our course in studio technique, or who can document equivalent prerequisites, have access to our studios and computer lab, and may work unsupervised by NOTAM’s staff if this is desirable. If personal guidance is preferable, we are only happy to share our experience and expertise. The key, as we see it, is to provide technical solutions on artistic terms.
Here are some examples of how NOTAM can be of assistance to our users:
Many artists in the Norwegian culture scene have been NOTAM users at some point in the 90s and 00s.
